Renewing Your CDL
How to Renew
Renewal of your South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be done in person at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You will need to provide the appropriate forms of identification showing your name, date of birth, Social Security number as well as proof of residency and citizenship.
The fee to renew your CDL is $12.50.
Adding Endorsements
You must take written and skills tests for each endorsement you wish to add. Each test costs $2.
Note that if you wish to add a hazmat endorsement, you will need to undergo background and fingerprint checks. Please refer to our Applying for a New CDL section for details.
Medical Requirements
You will need to pass an annual physical, meeting the medical requirements set forth by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration and filling out a medical report. Your doctor may or may not be approved to give CDL physicals, so check with the office when you get ready to schedule an appointment.
